More About Me
Hi mamas! In case you were hoping to learn a little bit more about my professional background, here it goes!
As mentioned, I am a full-time working mama. I am a bilingual Speech Language Pathologist based in New York City and working in the heart of East Harlem. I am nationally certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA), and I am a licensed therapist in New York and New Jersey.
I received my Masters in Speech Language Pathology from Teachers College, Columbia University and my Bachelors from Loyola University in Maryland. I currently work as a school-based speech therapist where I provide speech therapy for students in grades k-2. The days are certainly LONG, but I can say with a truthful heart that my students make it worthwhile. A big part of my job consists of working with English language learners and providing bilingual therapy in Spanish to meet their language needs. Similarly, I also work with students with Autism in order to facilitate and support their social needs and peer relationships. My school is one of the many schools in NYC that has the ASD Nest Program. The ASD Nest Program is an inclusion program that serves students with high functioning Autism. In this way, our students with ASD are given the opportunity to learn alongside their typically developing peers with access to the same academic curriculum as their peers, while also receiving the social, emotional, and behavioral supports that they need to thrive. I have been a part of this program for 5 years, and I have truly developed a love for working with this population of students.
In addition to this, I have worked part-time for an Early Intervention (EI) agency in New Jersey, providing speech therapy for children 0-3 years of age. When I started doing EI, I realized just how much I enjoyed working with the little, little ones. Early Intervention has enabled me to work closely with families to help and guide them in supporting their child’s language growth. And now that I have my own little-one to look after, my passion and fascination with language development only continues to grow day after day. Motherhood has allowed me to rediscover this ever growing passion, love, and commitment for my field of work. And all of this has contributed to the beginnings of Mama Speech. Thank you again for stopping by; I am excited to continue my journey alongside you!
